Structural Engineering Services in India

Sixteens Consultancy Services is headquartered in Calicut, Kerala — delivering structural engineering to Indian clients under NBC and IS codes while simultaneously serving international clients across 14 countries.

Our India Base

Sixteens Consultancy Services was founded in 2014 in Calicut (Kozhikode), Kerala, India. Our head office is located at Office no. 13, 2nd Floor, Landmark Meritus Commercial Building, Thiruvannur, Calicut — 673029. India is both our home market and the operational base from which we serve international clients across Saudi Arabia, UAE, Canada, USA, Japan, Türkiye, and beyond.

The Indian construction sector is one of the world's fastest-growing — driven by infrastructure investment, residential development, commercial expansion, and industrial growth. Structural engineering demand in India spans traditional reinforced concrete residential buildings, large-span steel industrial structures, infrastructure projects (bridges, elevated highways, transit stations), and increasingly sophisticated commercial and hospitality developments.

Applicable Codes in India

Structural design in India is governed primarily by the National Building Code of India (NBC 2016), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) material and design codes, and various IS (Indian Standard) codes for specific structural applications. Key structural IS codes include IS 456 (Plain and Reinforced Concrete), IS 800 (Steel Structures), IS 1893 (Earthquake-Resistant Design), IS 875 Parts 1–5 (Code of Practice for Design Loads), and IS 2911 (Foundation Design). NBC 2016 Part 6 (Structural Design Section) coordinates these individual IS codes into a unified design framework.

Seismic Design in India

India has significant seismic hazard across much of the country. IS 1893:2016 (Criteria for Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures) classifies India into four seismic zones (II through V), with Zone V (highest hazard) covering the Himalayan belt and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Zone IV covering much of northeastern India and some northern cities, and Zone III covering a broad central belt. Kerala, including Calicut, falls in Seismic Zone III — a moderate hazard zone requiring specific design attention to lateral force resistance, ductile detailing, and foundation depth.

Engaging Us for India Projects

For Indian projects, we provide structural design, foundation design, connection design, detailing, and documentation services under NBC 2016 and applicable IS codes. Our Calicut base means we understand the local construction ecosystem — material availability, contractor capabilities, and the practical realities of Kerala construction practice — while our international experience ensures that unusual structure types, international material specifications, or foreign-code alignment requirements are handled with equal proficiency.

Direct communication from Calicut. When you engage us for an Indian project, you work directly with our Calicut office — same time zone, same language, and the same senior engineer who works on your international counterparts' projects.
