Our Kozhikode Office
Sixteens Consultancy Services is a structural engineering consultancy headquartered at Office no. 13, 2nd Floor, Landmark Meritus Commercial Building, Thiruvannur, Kozhikode — 673029, Kerala. Our Kozhikode base gives us direct familiarity with Kerala construction practice, local contractor and fabricator capabilities, municipal permit requirements, and the specific structural engineering challenges of the Malabar Coast — laterite soil conditions, Zone III seismicity, monsoon wind loading, and coastal marine exposure.
We provide structural engineering services for clients in Kozhikode and across Kerala — from residential house structures to large-span commercial and industrial buildings — using the same rigour we apply to international projects across 14 countries.

Structural Engineering Services in Kozhikode
We provide the full range of structural engineering services for Kozhikode and Kerala projects:
- Residential structural design — RCC frame buildings, independent villas, NRI diaspora homes, multi-storey residential blocks. Column layout, beam and slab design, footing and pile foundation design, all under IS 456 and IS 1893.
- Commercial and institutional buildings — shops, offices, schools, hospitals, and mixed-use developments. Structural system selection (RCC frame, composite, steel) matched to span requirements and loading.
- Industrial and warehouse structures — pre-engineered steel buildings (PEB), portal frame warehouses, factory structures, storage facilities. IS 800 steel design with appropriate corrosion protection for the Malabar climate.
- Foundation design — shallow footings, combined footings, raft foundations, and pile foundations (IS 2911) for the range of soil conditions encountered in Kozhikode — from laterite midlands to coastal alluvial zones.
- Structural design reports and calculations — complete calculation packages for bank loans, building permits, and authority submissions.
- Capacity assessment and retrofit — existing structure evaluation against current IS codes, deficiency identification, and strengthening design.
Why Kozhikode Structural Engineering is Technically Distinct
Kozhikode's position on the Malabar Coast and its topographic diversity create structural engineering conditions that differ from other parts of India:
Laterite soil conditions. The Malabar midlands — where much of Kozhikode's residential construction occurs — have laterite soil profiles. Laterite can provide reasonable bearing capacity when intact, but its engineering behaviour must be confirmed by a geotechnical investigation before foundation design. Decomposed laterite zones and seasonal variation in moisture content can affect bearing capacity, and foundation design must account for these conditions rather than assuming uniform support.
Monsoon wind loading. Kozhikode receives intense monsoon rainfall and associated wind events. Under IS 875 Part 3, Kozhikode falls in Wind Zone 2 with a basic wind speed of 39 m/s. Structures with large roof areas, tall facades, or elevated floors must be checked for wind uplift and lateral drift under monsoon-equivalent wind loads. Roof fixings, cladding, and overhanging features are particularly vulnerable to wind uplift if not properly designed.
Seismic Zone III. All of Kozhikode district falls within IS 1893:2016 Seismic Zone III — a moderate hazard zone. This means all structural designs must include a seismic analysis: base shear calculation, seismic load combinations, and ductile detailing of reinforced concrete frames per IS 13920. For taller or irregular structures, a response spectrum analysis may be required. The seismic design requirement applies to all building types — residential, commercial, and industrial.
Coastal marine exposure. Kozhikode's coastal strip — within approximately 5 km of the Arabian Sea — has elevated marine exposure that affects both steel and concrete structures. Concrete mix designs for coastal Kozhikode must include reduced water-cement ratios, adequate cover to reinforcement, and appropriate cement type per IS 456 durability provisions. Steel structures require hot-dip galvanising or multi-coat corrosion protection systems appropriate to the marine environment.
NRI and Gulf Diaspora Clients
Kozhikode has one of India's largest Gulf diaspora communities — families who have built wealth through employment in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman, and who invest a significant portion of that income in residential construction back home. We work with NRI clients across the Gulf, handling the complete structural engineering scope for their Kerala homes remotely — from WhatsApp brief to permit-ready drawing set — while they remain overseas.
Our Gulf project experience (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, and beyond — see our GCC structural consultancy page) means we understand the quality expectations of clients who have seen international construction standards, and we apply those standards to Kerala projects. An NRI home in Kozhikode deserves the same structural rigour as a commercial tower in Dammam.
Cities We Serve in Kerala
From our Kozhikode base, we serve structural engineering clients across northern Kerala and beyond: Kozhikode city and district, Malappuram, Kannur, Wayanad, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Kochi. We also work on projects across southern Kerala — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta — and anywhere in India where the project warrants remote delivery. Our service area is Kerala-wide, not just Kozhikode city.
Applicable Codes for Kozhikode Projects
Structural design in Kozhikode follows the Bureau of Indian Standards suite:
- IS 456:2000 — Plain and reinforced concrete design
- IS 800:2007 — General construction in steel
- IS 1893:2016 — Seismic zone III design requirements
- IS 13920:2016 — Ductile detailing of reinforced concrete
- IS 875 Parts 1–5 — Design loads (dead, live, wind, snow, seismic)
- IS 2911:2010 — Pile foundation design
- NBC 2016 — National Building Code of India (coordination framework)
How to Engage Us
Send your project brief by email ([email protected]) or WhatsApp to +974 6004 4913. Include: the project type (residential/commercial/industrial), approximate built-up area, site location in Kozhikode or Kerala, and the available drawings (architectural floor plan, site plan). We will confirm the scope, timeline, and fee within one business day.
